Competition: Exceptional contribution to (GIS/statistical) software

New for 2017: The GIScRG (Geographic Information Science Research Group of the RGS) and QMRG (Quantitative Methods Research Group) are looking to use some of their fund to support a contribution to some GIS / statistical open source software. We have £500 to offer as a grant (or series of grants) to one or more projects that will contribute to a piece of open source GIS / statistical software.

QMRG Dissertation Prize (Undergraduate)

The prize is for the best dissertation in *any* area of quantitative geography, which include the application of existing techniques or the development of new ones in physical, human or environmental studies. Entries are limited to undergraduate students completing BSc / BA level dissertations in higher education institutions in the UK and Ireland, and must be nominated by a member of staff within those institutions. Each institution is limited to a single entry.

GIScRG Dissertation Prize (Postgraduate)

The prize is for the best dissertation in *any* area of geographic information science, which include the application of existing techniques or the development of new ones in physical, human or environmental studies. Entries are limited to postgraduate students completing GIS related masters in higher education institutions in the UK and Ireland, and must be nominated by a member of staff within those institutions. Each institution is limited to a single entry.

Prizes are usually £100 plus Annual RGS-IBG Postgraduate Fellowship with £50 plus an Annual RGS-IBG Postgraduate Fellowship for the runner up.

Assessment / Judging

Entries are judged by members of the relevant committee who may, depending on the number of entries received, decide to award separate prizes for different fields of the discipline. There is a cash prize for the winner(s).
